Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. For 40 years and in over 155 countries, Jhpiego Corporation has been providing technical support to the Ministries of Health in partner countries across the globe for the past 40 years in a variety of technical areas including cervical cancer treatment and prevention, community health, HIV and AIDS, maternal and newborn health, health workforce capacity development in-service, malaria, and IPC/WASH.
MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) is part of a suite of innovative awards funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to holistically improve maternal and child health (MCH) in partner countries around the world. The project focuses on technical and capacity development assistance to Ministries of Health and other country partners to improve health outcomes.
In Sierra Leone, Jhpiego supports the Government of Sierra Leone at both the national and district levels in capacity building and technical assistance to contribute to improving maternal and newborn and child health. A significant area of focus for our work is accelerating and strengthening the technical and operational capacity of local healthcare workers to reduce maternal, newborn, and child deaths and provide quality services.
We are currently looking for suitable candidates to fill the following positions:
-Locations: Three Districts, Bo, Pujehun, and Port Loko
-Contract Duration: (6 - 8) months
Responsibilities:
• Provide quality technical assistance to district and facility teams by facilitating and implementing clinical and quality improvement MNH activities and supporting district and facility teams with strategic program guidance, training, and capacity building. Contribute to the implementation of evidence-based, methodologically sound clinical mentorship, needed for health workforce capacity building and quality improvement of service delivery. Ensure that the activities implemented are technically sound, evidence-based, and responsive to the priorities and needs of the district and facilities.
• Provide input to and ensure quality improvement approaches are implemented at the facility level by working closely with facility staff, DHMT, program staff, and other SRH and consortium partners to provide inputs into country work plans and reports and to review program data and results to inform decision-making and technical strategies.
In collaboration with other team members, prepare activity budgets.
Key task for MNH Technical Specialist:
• Support MoH national and district level strategies to reduce preventable maternal and perinatal deaths by actively participating in MPDSR investigation, reviews, and follow-up actions.
• Support district teams to roll out clinical Lifesaving Maternal and newborn interventions, including Helping Mother Survive and Helping Babies Survive training package, facility cascade, and on-site clinical mentorship of service providers to achieve competency in all modules.
• Conduct monthly facility visits to review data, observe service delivery, and provide coaching and mentorship • Coordinate the design of implementation research that may promote new initiatives and innovations for future adoption, i.e. in the area of MNH integration. • Work with relevant MoH and health partners to develop /review national quality improvement clinical standards in maternal and newborn health.
• Assess, identify gaps, provide feedback, and report on the status of meeting Quality Improvement MNH clinical standards and projects. Develop action plans to assist in the implementation of appropriate measures in healthcare facilities. Provide monitoring, mentoring, and refresher training when necessary. • Submit regular activity reports on identified gaps, measures implemented, achievements, challenges, outcomes, and opportunities for improvement to the MoH.
• Represent MOMENTUM /Jhpiego to donors, partners (including WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA), and other external stakeholders. Assist in establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships with counterparts and donors to maximize MOMENTUM /JHPIEGO’s impact.
• Actively participate in MNH knowledge management activities by ensuring knowledge sharing and best practices are shared with other project staff, district teams, country health partners, and Momentum/ Jhpiego staff globally, and that existing knowledge is leveraged in planning, decision-making, and providing technical assistance. Support the documentation of program results in international conferences and peer-reviewed journals, and publications
• Provide support to the realization of external communication priorities, including supporting the development of success stories, blogs, and other program and technical-related communication materials that demonstrate JHPIEGO’s technical expertise, results, and programming excellence
• Support innovations and the development of new products and approaches in MNH including service provision, essential and basic and/or comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care, advancement of program efforts to strengthen MNH service delivery platforms, integrating quality of care and quality improvements (QoC and QI) into maternal and new born health care strategies.

Qualification:
• Required Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree/certificate in midwifery / Public Health degree/Community Health officer
• Advanced certificate/diploma in newborn health care
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the Reproductive, maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health space.
• Experience working with MoH and other health partners at the national and district levels
• Experience in conducting in-service training and clinical mentorship, coaching, and developing health-related training materials
• Knowledge and experience in counseling
• Computer skills: in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
• Excellent written and oral communication.
• Willingness to travel to project-supported facilities and other districts.
