Job Description – QA/QC Manager (Site), Baomahun Solar Hybrid Project

Company: Soventix GmbH

Location: Baomahun project site, Sierra Leone (expat rotation, indicative 8 weeks on / 2 weeks off).

Start: August 2026 or earlier.

Duration: Approx. 12 months, through project COD (April 2027) and close-out.

Reports to: Head of Quality (functional), Senior Construction Manager (site).

The Project

Soventix is delivering a 33 MWp solar PV plant with battery energy storage for a gold mining operation in Sierra Leone, under an EPC structure for an international IPP client. Construction is underway. Civil, mechanical and electrical works are executed by subcontractors under Soventix supervision, with major equipment (modules, inverters, MV stations, mounting structure, BESS transformers) supplied from international vendors.

The Role:

You own quality on site. You will establish and run the site quality system across all disciplines and all subcontractors, from incoming goods through to handover documentation. This is a hands-on role on a remote site with a demanding schedule. Subcontractor quality records require active management, not passive review.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain the Project Quality Plan on site; align with the client's quality requirements and the contract
  • Own the ITP structure across civil, mechanical and electrical works; define hold and witness points; coordinate client witness attendance through the Senior Construction Manager
  • Surveillance of subcontractor quality: civil works (earthworks, trenching, foundations, fencing), mechanical installation (piling, mounting structure, module installation, torque records), electrical works (DC, LV/MV cabling, terminations, MV stations, SCADA)
  • Witness and record pile installation and pull-out tests, weld inspections, torque verification, cable testing, and pre-commissioning checks
  • Incoming goods inspection: verify deliveries against packing lists and purchase orders, record transport damage, manage quarantine and claims documentation
  • Review supplier documentation: factory test reports, material certificates, MDRs; flag gaps before installation, not after
  • Run the NCR register: raise, track, and close non-conformances with subcontractors and suppliers; escalate systemic issues
  • Audit subcontractor quality documentation for completeness and integrity; do not accept records at face value
  • Build the handover quality dossier progressively (as-builts, test records, certificates) so documentation does not become a COD blocker
  • Support punch list management through mechanical completion and commissioning
  • Weekly quality reporting to the Head of Quality and Project Manager
  • Train and develop local site staff in inspection and record-keeping practices

Requirements

  • 10+ years QA/QC experience in utility-scale solar PV or comparable EPC construction, of which 3+ years as QA/QC Manager or Lead
  • Site experience in West Africa or comparable remote developing-market environments
  • Working knowledge of relevant IEC standards for PV plants and MV installations, ISO 9001 systems, and ITP-based inspection regimes
  • Ability to inspect across disciplines: civil, mechanical, electrical
  • Strong documentation discipline; competent with document control systems and standard MS Office tools
  • Fluent English, written and spoken
  • Physically fit for site work; valid passport and willingness to work on rotation in Sierra Leone
  • Medically fit for tropical deployment (malaria zone)

Desirable

  • Prior experience on hybrid (PV + BESS) projects
  • Experience managing subcontractor quality on mining or industrial client sites
  • CWI/welding inspection, electrical testing, or NDT qualifications
  • German language.

What We Offer

  • Competitive expat package including rotation flights, site accommodation and meals, and international medical/evacuation cover.
  • A senior role with real ownership on a flagship project in the West African market
